Further to my Xbox One X observations, I thought you might like to know that I tested on Quest 2 today using the Quest's inbuilt browser. I only tested Donkey Kong dual screen, and it ran ok but did not accept any input from my bluetooth connected Xbox controller even when I attempted to remap the controller buttons in the game settings. It may work with a bluetooth keyboard connected, but I dont have one for testing unfortunately.

I might try and sideload another browser to the Quest 2 such as the Chrome apk version and see if that works any better with a controller.

Edit: I managed to sideload Chrome apk, but results are even worse with regards to controller, still no ability to remap Xbox controller buttons after connecting it with bluetooth, but sadly also lost the ability to press the buttons on the game itself with my Quest controllers (which I can do with inbuilt Quest Browser), I can press the play and other menu buttons with Quest controller, and grab and rotate the device but can't press the onscreen buttons on the game itself. Oh well... hope this helps someone else attempting to do the same.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll keep these in mind when adding support for controllers.

I've been playing your simulations for a few weeks now and I just discovered you can play the alarms on all the game & watch games! I'm totally blown away by the amount of detail you put into each game. Thank you for making such an amazing collection!

Thanks! I'm not sure how many folks used the alarm feature back in the day, but with the exception of the the silver series, every Game & Watch had an alarm, each with it's own unique on-screen animation, so I just had to include it :)

You could set them up on your bedside cabinet (I seem to remember a little wire stand pops out from the back of some of them to prop them up), batteries lasted forever so would have made a good alarm clock for kids. I don't think I ever used to wake up to an alarm as a kid though, but handy to check the time.

I have a strong memory of my dad becoming a bit addicted to my Donkey Kong dual screen when I was about 12, one day I left for school and he was sitting up in bed playing it, and when I got home he was still playing and shouted at me to not disturb him as he was getting a high score... haha.

Just had another thought, is anaglyph 3D on your radar at all? Some of these devices would look particularly interesting in 3D with anaglyph glasses, particularly the tabletop and panorama models. You could even pop them out from the screen a little for extra depth and have them float in front of you. As well as anaglyph, it might also be useful to produce side by side 3D for 3D TVs.

(1 edit)

Sounds cool, but I don't have plans to add anaglyph support. But I'll  keep it mind :) Thanks for the suggestion.

This is some high end stuff indeed, many thanks. I was even able to get some of them to run on Xbox One X using Edge browser although there were some issues as described below (at 1080p resolution).

I tried Donkey Kong Multi Screen and it worked really well even in full screen high detail (1080p tv). The xbox controller also worked for DPad control however there was no button assigned to the jump control. To get around this issue I moved the mouse pointer over the top of the jump button and then was able to press the A button on the controller to jump, whilst using the DPad for the controller for movement.

The second one I tried on Xbox was Octopus, this worked fine with Xbox controller as just needs DPad for left and right however when switching to full screen mode it seems to crash webgl on the browser and need to restart Edge to get it working again. Works in non fullscreen mode.

I then tried Wildfire which took me a little while to figure out how to switch the game on (switch is on the side of the device above the right flipper button). I think this game worked ok in fullscreen if I remember correctly, but need to use the same method as donkey kong to launch the ball with controller (place mouse over launch button and use A button).

Lastly I tried Donkey Kong Jr. Panorama screen, this title seemed to crash webgl even without changing to full screen and I didnt get to even see the game device at all.

It's pretty amazing that these games can be even played at all on Xbox in the browser, but hopefully my feedback helps. If you are interested in having me test any more titles on Xbox One then let me know.

Thanks! That's really interesting feedback and much appreciated. I don't have an Xbox to test on but running it on Edge in Windows seems to work without any crashes, although it's noticeably slower than Chrome and Firefox :(

Perhaps try the following and see if it prevents the crashes on your Xbox. If you're using one of the 3D backgrounds (like chalkboard or collector) try switching to one of the simpler color backgrounds (like classic or dark). Also, maybe try reducing the quality to SD or LD. That should improve performance and hopefully reduce the chance of Edge crashing. These system options apply across all games so set  them on a game that works for you (like Donkey Kong mult screen) and then try running one of the problematic ones to test.

As for the controller, I will add native controller support at some point, but you may be able to map your Xbox controller buttons to specific actions. Open the game settings (F3) and then select the specific action you want to map under "Keyboard Controls". It should start flashing. Then press the controller button and it *might* assign that button to the action. I would be interested to know if it does!

Thanks again for the feedback and let me know if these suggestions help.

Hi again, thanks for tips.

In relation to Xbox:

Changing the Xbox button assignment does allow me to change the jump key to "Y" button or shoulder buttons althouth I think it marks the key as unknown but still works. Cannot assign to A or X buttons, can also assign to B button but this causes a conflict as its also used to back out of a webpage.

Changing to SD mode on Octopus does allow the game to run in fullscreen mode (in 1080p at least, unsure if this would also work in 4K screens). If I switch it to HD mode it will flash between the game at full screen and a black screen for a few seconds and then crashes webgl (sad face icon in top left corner of game) and then requires a restart of Edge to get webgl up and running again.

I also tried snoopy tabletop and that works in SD fullscreen but not HD.

Donkey Kong Jr. does not work in any resolution setting even in non full screen mode and just keeps reloading back to the opening title page (I think it crashes webgl eventually but would need to check again). I am wondering if this is perhaps something to do with the mirroring effect method used?

I don't suppose you have any future intention to add "Dragon" by Tiger (also branded Orlitronic in some countries, 1982)? That's one of the more obscure games I had in the 80's and there doesn't seem to be much info on it online, took me a while to even figure out what the game was when I was searching recently as I could only remember the gameplay description and not the name or manufacturer, I did recall that the casing was orange though so that helped a bit and I recognised it when I saw an image online. http://handheldempire.com/game.jsp?game=2560

Thanks for the feedback. I don't know much about the Dragon  LCD game and unfortunately it's difficult to build a simulation for a game I can't play myself or collaborate with someone who owns it. I will be setting up a companion website (when I have some free time) with a community discussion board where I hope you'll post about this game again. Maybe someone who owns it would be able to provide more information and resources :)

I've prototyped adding support for gamepads :)
Details can be found here on how to test.
I'd be interested if it works for your Xbox controller.

Awesome thankyou. It works well on Xbox One Controller on my PC. By default the D-Pad is not active and it uses the left joystick instead. Easy to remap to D-Pad in game but you can only have one or the other, not both it seems.

The start and select buttons are also not mapped to any controller buttons by default, but again easy to map to controller buttons 8 and 9 as shown in your screenshot.

I'll also try it out on my Xbox One using Edge browser and get back to you with results.

Awesome, thanks. I've replied to your post in the discussion forum.

Will you be doing the Tomytronic 3D handhelds at some point?

(1 edit)

Yes :) I have everything to start work on Thundering Turbo  (no idea when though), but I still need to find the instruction guides for the other games in the series.

cool!

Thank you so so much for bringing back my childhood. Discovering your page brought those nolstalgic feeling. And to think of the fact that these artworks are HD and there are no lags in gameplay...you are just awesome. You did a wonderful job. Bless you. I wish i could play them on the Steamdeck.

Thank you! That's so wonderful to hear :) A lot of effort has gone into creating these simulations so I really appreciate the feedback.

(1 edit)

This games are remaked with so much love, I have the GBA collection of game & watch games and they look awful. I wish there were downloadable versions for all the machines like de donkey kong collection, because if some company (I wont say their name but start with N and end with intendo) find out about this page they will DMCA you for sure. Keep up the good work.

(1 edit)

Sorry, never heard 'em ;-) But hopefully their lawyers have better things to do than chase down fan works that, if anything, can only help to increase interest in these early products of theirs ;-) Thanks for playing and for the feedback!

Thank you so much for these amazing recreations!! The best presentation I've seen of it's kind in over 20 years. The level of quality is off the charts and there's just something about being able to view the devices and packaging in 3D that makes it all the more interactive and tactile. You really should be rewarded for your efforts in making these classic electronic games so accessible to generations old and new. Keep up the great work!!

Thank you for your kind words! I'm glad you're enjoying these simulations and I appreciate the feedback :)

where is Egg and Mario The Juggler?

(1 edit)

also, any Russian game and watch clones?

(2 edits)

Eventually all Game & Watch titles will be available :) I'm currently releasing each simulation here as I complete them. If you follow me you'll be notified as soon as new games are added.

I hope to add a few Elektronika simulations at some point :)
I'm struggling to  find good quality scans of the packaging and instructions though :(

Hi Itizso,

Thanks again for your continued updates. I like the new backgrounds. I am really enjoying Climber and Balloon Fight, Mario's Cement Factory and the DK games as well as the others, really appreciate that you created them. I play them with your enhanced backgrounds most of the time, it really looks so good, if you have time to add a couple more backgrounds per game that would be cool, but not nescessary.

I have  a suggestion for more Game and Watch to add if possible.

Verticle series, Bomb sweeper BD-62, Squish MG-61, and Zelda ZL-65.

Your dedication to the quality you provide us with is a true benchmark that many should follow.

Looking forward to your other projects too.  Cheers PhilMac. :)

Thank you for your feedback on the latest updates and suggestions for games to add :) I'm glad you're enjoying these simulations and  I appreciate the continued support!

(1 edit)

I know this is a rare, RARE game, so it'll be hard to find actual gameplay for reference, but could you add Hyper Olympic Challenge 5?

(3 edits)

I would love to add as many electronic games as possible to this collection, especially unique and rare ones, but unfortunately it would be impossible to implement an accurate simulation without being able to actually play the game :( or, at the very least, collaborate with someone who owns the game.

Holy Moly!

So glad you added the Microvision games!   I had this way back in 6th grade and haven't found a proper emulation until your efforts came along.

Many thanks!!!!!!!!

I'm glad you were able to play them again after all these years!
I'll hopefully add a few more Microvision games at some point :)

Hi Itizso,  thanks for the updates to Mario Bros.  Waiting to deal with 300 bonus after loaded truck bonus, is working great.

It took me a while but I finally rolled over 1000 on the score, and ran into a new bug.  The game freezes after the next full truck bonus.

Still loosing way to much daytime to this game ;)

(2 edits)

Wow, over 1000 points... that's impressive! Thanks for the bug report. I've uploaded a patch with a fix.  Thanks again for helping to improve this simulation.

Looks good.  Will have to try to get to 1000 naturally. Boy it's hard to get through 900.  The speed.... <gasp>  ;)

(2 edits)

I can't believe you're able to play at those speeds!!! That's so good. As for the difficulty after scoring 1000 points, you're right, the number of crates was calculated using the rolled over score instead of the actual total score which is why the amount of crates went down after the score rolled over. I've fixed it now and uploaded the patch :) Thanks for letting me know (although I don't think anyone else who scores over 1000 will be thanking you ;)

Yeah.  I normally play on mode B, and only rolled that mode once.  Normally loose a life somewhere in 900, and trying to recover after that goes badly.  Mode A is too easy :)

This is seriously impressive!!

Thanks :)

This is an excellent collection, very professional looking presentation, with the box art and everything 😎👍. Are the games all just simulations, no emulation? I like that you also included some non-Nintendo games, like Bandai and Tomy. I've also created some LCD game simulations, see here http://bdrgames.nl/lcdgames/

(1 edit)

Thanks for playing and for the kind words :) Wow, your lcdgame.js library looks amazing! All games on RetroFab are simulations except for the Game Boy collection which is based on my Virtual Game Boy Advance prototype.

Unfortunately, I was not careful enough and now I see that not only the games, but also the original packaging and description are available in 3D for your games. Brilliant! I simply can't find words, everything you touch is ultra professional!

Thank you so much for the kind words!
It's just my small contribution in preserving as much as possible of these early electronic games :)

Thanks for the update to mario bros.  Haven't had the issue with bonus mode and full truck since.

I do have another issue that I wanted to wait to see if it would go away with this fix.  There appears to be an issue with detecting key release (keyup event).  Normally happens at higher level (game speeds), but the characters sometimes will get stuck (normally at the top of the ladder), and not move.  Can't find a common "cause" event.  Appears that somehow, the sim thinks one of the buttons is pressed even when the keyboard has no keys pressed.  Saw the up toggled on one of them when a game ended because of this.  The button stayed toggled up, even over a new game start.  All down movements were ignored till up was pressed, and the button returned to normal operations.

Again, thanks so much for this childhood trip :)

(4 edits)

Thank you for the feedback and detailed description of the issue.
Mario Bros. has now been updated with a fix for the issues.
Thank you for helping to improve this simulation.

wowowowowowowowow!
Mighty Impressive!

Thanks for playing :)

Yippe you did it. Thank you so much for adding Ballloon Fight G&W to this collection. I am super grateful for your hard work and dedication to your fans as I am a hugh one. Great work. You sir a true legend :)

Thanks for your patience! Enjoy :)

WOOOOOOOOO LETS GO ITIZO THANK YOU FOR GETTING BALLOON FIGHT ON Retrofab

You're welcome :)

Hi mate, thanks for your continued excellent work. I am looking forward to your future releases, especially Balloon Fight G&W. Your page is bookmarked as the first on my favourites bar. Hope you have a great week :)

(1 edit)

Thanks for your continued support! I'm almost caught up with  completing most of the unfinished games and should start working on the Game & Watch ones again soon :)

Your welcome I will always visit often, I am so glad you made these for everyone. Each time I am suprised of how much work you put into your games....Blows my mind  !!!

It is great news that the G&W games are coming soon, but I also do enjoy your other sims. I recall playing this model Tron, and used to save my pocket money by working at a deli back in the 80's  to play Galaxian, Arkanoid and Galaga too on the arcade machines outside of the deli I worked at.

Great times hey... \m/

(1 edit)

Balloon Fight now available to play on RetroFab. Enjoy :)

finally!!! some innovation in the simulation space after all these years. i absolutely love it!  the quality and interactivity of these simulations are amazing and should be the new standard by which all hand held simulators (and emulators) are measured.

well done and keep up the great work!!!

Thanks! That's wonderful to hear :) Thank you for playing!

It'd be neat to include the Zelda Game & Watch  multi-screen, but I do honestly love this. Ever since adobe flash player is no longer supported, Pica Pic would no longer be used, so this is a amazing alternative.

Yes, Zelda multiscreen is on the list :) The goal is to add all 60 of the Game & Watch titles for the 1.0 release. Thanks for playing!

Holy moly, these games are incredible!  Well done!

My only gripe is on the donkey kong collection, in donkey kong jr, on the first vine, you should be able to jump off to the right, but this is not the case.

On the online version this works, but in the donkey kong collection downloaded games, it does not.    Doesn't affect much, but still...

Thanks again for this amazing collection, will any of the other online game & watch be available to download?

Thanks! Yes, you're right, it was not correct in the downloadable version  (which is no longer in active development) but was fixed in the rewrite for the online RetroFab version :)

Yes, all simulations on RetroFab will eventually be available for download, probably with the official 1.0 release (or soon thereafter) which will likely only be once I've added all 60 of the Nintendo Game & Watch titles.

Thanks for playing!

Also, in Donkey Kong II when the key is in the upper screen and you lose a life, the key doesn't reset back to the starting position. iirc it does on the actual device, both in game A and B.

(1 edit)

You're right! Well spotted. The key should reset back to the start on a miss. Thanks for letting me know :) I've uploaded a patch with the fix. Thank you for helping to improve the accuracy of this simulation :)

Wow this might be the best damn webpage I've found in the last 2 and a half decades!

Thanks!! Still a work in progress :) Nice work on your port of Mario's Cement Factory for the C64, btw.

it's the BEST DAMN WEB IN ICHIO!!!

cement factory

Thanks for playing! Did you like cement factory?

My favorite Game & Watch game is Super Mario Bros.! Good thing you add it! :D

(1 edit)

Thanks for playing! It was so popular Nintendo released three different G&W versions :)

Yup! That's why Mario is always my favorite character. :)

(2 edits)

the new handheld sims that itizo just made are

 so good :]

Thanks :) Just updated all sims to the latest version of RetroFab  which includes a cool new 3D background option. Thanks for playing!

(1 edit)

this is the best handheld sim ever made

Thanks!! I appreciate the feedback.
It makes the many hours  working on them worthwhile :)

Amazing!!! Hands down the best handheld simulators on the web!

Thanks! I'm glad you like them :)

correct!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks :)

(1 edit)

your welcome

Airport Panic! There's a game that hasn't aged well. Ha!

(4 edits)

Definitely true of the sound which was pretty basic even for the 80s. Although you gotta admit the idea of stacking two LCD panels on top of each other was really innovative!

(1 edit)

My bother has this.. I think it still works, wow another flashback playing this. I used the think as a kid that the bullets were huge, but of course they had to be to see them... hind sight is always 20/20. Thanks again for this. Any news on Balloon Fight G&W ?\

Balloon Fight is still on the list but I'm not sure when I'll start working on it. I still have a number of unfinished games I need  to complete first.

Deleted 1 year ago

This are some great simulations of these games, man. Didn't expect this to show up in the randomizer; but I'm glad that I got to know your work through this.

(1 edit)

Thanks! I'm glad you got  a chance to try them out and I appreciate the feedback :)

Can you do the Widescreen version of Mario's Cement Factory?

(1 edit)

Yes :) I plan to eventually add all the Game & Watch titles. Check back every few weeks or follow me to be notified as soon as it's available.

Hi Mate, You have out done yourself again...

Thanks for updating your excellent library again.  I hope you have success in obtaining a Ballon Fight G&W as requested, as Climber you had added recently is so faithfully reproduced (as per all of your library) the experience of playing them is like when they were first purchased, has this experience has not been recreated like your work has (of course in a viritual sense.

The excitement all came flooding back with great memories attached on each occasion, when I'd save up my cash to buy a new game, and I sincerly thank you for these priceless memories.

I wish you continued success in this and your future projects.

I'll spread the word. Best regards :)

Thanks! I'm glad they bring back some good memories :)

THIS IS FUCKING INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!

I'm amazed, this is incredible! Thank you so much for making these nostalgic games so accessible =)

Thanks for playing and for the kind words :)

This is incredibly cool. These simple games have so mcuh more retro feeling with their original devices around the. Two thumbs up

Thanks for playing! I appreciate the feedback :)

This is really incredible work. Are you planning on recreating the Zelda and Castlevania titles as well? And wristwatches?

(2 edits)

Thanks! I would love to recreate as many titles as I can, but it all depends on how much information I can find on each game -- like the original instructions, photos of the device and packaging, and scans of the LCD graphics. And, of course, a way to play the game.

So far, I have enough information to recreate all of the Game & Watch titles, so definitely expect to see them added over the coming months :)

as a one of the Fans and Nintendo Game and Watch collators, I Admire your quality of work here, you guys should know there are people out there who really enjoy and want to have such good memories to revived, keep the momentum please and I personally will wait for more good work to come and excited from now, wondeful Guys!!!

(1 edit)

Thanks Sam!! It's always great to hear from fellow Game & Watch fans. Be sure to click on the "follow" button to be notified as soon as new updates are available, like this week's new release:
Super Mario Bros

Thanks for update, but I can not find the new one in this page , is it somewhere else that you updating?

It's in beta and available at https://itizso.itch.io/nintendo-super-mario-bros-crystal-screen. Followers can also find it by clicking on the Feed menu item at the top of the itch page where you'll find exclusive bonus content like secret cheat codes :) Enjoy.
