Zelda Game & Watch
Rescue Princess Zelda by defeating the dragons who have locked her away deep inside a maze of enemy filled labyrinths in the last official Multi-Screen Game & Watch handheld released by Nintendo.
Eight fierce dragons have kidnapped Princess Zelda and locked her deep in a dungeon. Our hero, Link, must battle his way through a series of chambers in each of eight labyrinths and defeat the dragons guarding each one in order to collect all eight fragments of the Triforce which is needed to unlock the seal that keeps Princess Zelda imprisoned. The action takes place across two screens.
LOWER SCREEN ( Goblin's Chambers )
Each dragon's labyrinth contains a series of chambers, each of which is guarded by a goblin. Link must skillfully defeat each goblin by repeatedly striking the goblin with his sword until all the goblin's energy is depleted. Use Link's shield to defend against the goblin's attacks.
Each chamber will also have between one and four stalfos which attack Link from below. Link must move left and right to avoid their blows. Some chambers will also have a ghost that will attack Link from behind. Use the shield to protect Link from the ghost's attacks.
When a goblin is defeated Link can sometimes pick up various items which if used skillfully can make defeating enemies easier. Picking up a map reveals the layout of the labyrinth (displayed on the uppper screen) and helps to choose which chamber to climb to next. Hearts add one unit of life to Link's energy. Picking up a Water of Life will automatically revive Link with five hearts if he loses all his energy. And picking up a tomahawk is three times as powerful as a sword against a dragon. Items picked up will be shown in the inventory on the upper screen.
Once a Goblin is defeated stairs will appear leading to the next chamber.
UPPER SCREEN ( Dragon's Lair )
When Link has made his way through the chambers of the labyrinth and reaches the dragon's lair he must fight single combat against the dragon. The dragon will spit out fire and attack with his tail. Link must move left and right to avoid them and attack with his sword or tomahawk.
When a Dragon is defeated by depleting all his energy, he will release a fragment of the Triforce which will appear on the upper screen. When Link has defeated all of the dragons and collected all eight fragments of the Triforce he will be able to release Princess Zelda from her dungeon.
- When Link is fighting a goblin and his energy is at maximum (five hearts) beams will be fired out from the tip of his sword when he strikes. As it always hits the goblin and is as powerful as the sword, it will make your fights much easier. And if you have the beam sword and you are standing closest to the Goblin when you attack, you will inflict six points of damage (3 points for the sword and 3 points for the beam).
- You can not rest while fighting in the goblin's chamber. However, once you've defeated the goblin, you can rest before climbing the staircase to the next chamber.
- The layout of chambers in each labyrinth and the location of items within each chamber is fixed and does not change. You can proceed through the labyrinth more easily if you remember which chambers have which item. In general though, it is always best to go to the chamber on the right after defeating a goblin, as this will usually lead to the tomahawk, even though it does mean going through more chambers.
- Use the CONTINUE key to resume playing at the stage reached when you die. You will lose all your points and Link's energy will be reset to three hearts but at least you can continue in your quest to free Pricess Zelda.
