Description

The Lone Ranger is a challenging shoot 'em up style electronic handheld LCD game released by Konami in 1989.

Gameplay

A band of ruthless desperadoes have come to the peaceful town of Abilene, Texas aimin' to poison all the townspeople. Only the daring and resourceful masked rider of the plains, the Lone Ranger, stands in their way.

If you haven't already guessed, this is a take no prisoners shoot 'em up that will test your speed and coordination. Move your pistol LEFT and RIGHT to take aim and press FIRE to shoot. You'll start out with 40 bullets in your belt and you'll need to survive 9 rounds alternating between 2 types of stages.

DUEL STAGES

Rounds 1,3,5,7 and 9 are DUEL STAGES where you have to shoot down gun-wielding banditos. When one of these bad dudes comes within firing rage, he will take aim and try to shoot at you. If you can squeeze off a shot at him before he can fire on you, you'll earn 40 points. However if the gunman shoots you first, you'll end up with a bullet hole in your hat. Collect 5 shots in your hide and the game is over.

Sometimes innocent townspeople will come into firing range during the heat of battle. They will not be holding a gun nor take aim at you. If you shoot one of these bystanders by mistake, you'll get a bullet hole in your hat, plus you'll lose 10 bullets. When you run out of bullets you won't be able to fire back and save yourself from being shot.

BONUS STAGES

Rounds 2,4,6 and 8 are BONUS STAGES where you get a chance to replenish your bullet supply while the desperadoes regroup outside of town. Keep in mind these ornery hombres you've been fighting are planning to poison the water system of Abilene. And they've brought their own supply of poison. Shoot the bottles of poison that appear onscreen to earn 20 points. Some bottles are marked with an "S". Shooting these bottles will add 2 shots to your supply of bullets.

After the first BONUS STAGE in round 2, bottles of poison will also appear in the DUEL STAGES, giving you more chances to increase your bullet supply, although you'll have to contend with gunmen shooting at you at the same time.
