Description

Blades of Steel is an ice hockey themed handheld electronic LCD game released by Konami in 1989 that will test your slap shooting ability.

Gameplay

The object of the game is to skate your way past the defensive lines of the opposing team and score as many goals as possible during the three regulations periods and two bonus stages.

Regulation Periods

During the regulation periods of play the clock will count down from 120 and you'll face off against three defensemen from the opposing team. You'll need to get past the starting blue line to put yourself within scoring range. And then in order to even take a shot on goal there cannot be an opponent in front of you to block your shot. Goals scored from positions further away from the goalie are worth 1 point, while those scored from positions closest to the goalie are worth 3 points.

Bonus Periods

After the first and second periods of regulation play a bonus stage will give you a chance to score more goals. During these bonus periods the clock will count down from 40 and there will only be one defensemen and the goalie to contend with. Goals scored in the bonus rounds are worth 3 points.

Tips & Tricks

When shooting, keep your eye on the area behind the goal. Shots on goal will beat the goalie only when a star symbol is visible behind the goal.

If a goalie saves a shot he'll hit the puck back in to play towards the starting blue line. If you're quick enough you can intercept the puck before it gets there and save yourself losing precious time on the clock.
